3rd/4th grades

Majors RULES

Eligibility

  • Boys graduating 3rd and 4th grades

Game

  • No leading off

  • 5-run rule per inning

Bases loaded walk rule

  • A pitcher can walk the bases loaded but cannot walk a run in.

  • In this case, a coach from the batting team will pitch a maximum of 4 pitches from approximately 35 feet.

  • If the ball is put in play, it is live.

  • If the ball is not put in play after 4 pitches for any reason, the batter is out.

  • Exception: If the batter is hit by a pitch with bases loaded, the runner may come home.

Dropped third strike

  • The batter cannot run on a dropped third strike.

Pass balls

  • Runners cannot score on a pass ball.

Bat Regulations

  • Bats must have the USA Baseball stamp.

Game time limit

  • 1 hour 15 minutes.

  • No inning may start after the time limit.

  • Time is noted at the last out of the inning, not the start of the next inning.

  • An official game consists of 5 innings.

Score Reporting

  • The home team is responsible for emailing scores and pitch counts.

On-deck batter

  • No on-deck batter is allowed.

Mercy rule

  • 10-run lead after 4 innings.

  • 15-run lead after 3 innings.

Batting and fielding requirements

  • The entire lineup bats.

  • Players must play 2 consecutive innings in the field.

Dead ball clarification

  • If a runner has conceded and is not advancing to the next base, and the ball is thrown back to the pitcher, the play is dead.

  • If the pitcher does not catch the ball in this scenario, the play remains dead and the runner cannot advance.

Additional rules

  • Any rule not listed here will defer to Little League rules. ( Do we keep this since we are not LL affiliated? Or just go straight to H.S. rules and should we just add those in at the bottom so its all on one sheet?)

Balks

  • Each pitcher is given 2 warnings before a balk is called.

  • Coaches are expected to assist pitchers in understanding balk rules.

Other rules

  • All other rules are based on high school baseball rules.

  • Runners can only score on hit ball, if the runner leads off of 3rd and the catcher throws to third and overthrows, the runner still can score, but only 3rd can advance.

  • If a player in the majors runs from third to home on a passed ball, the runner will be warned not to do it again and sent back to third, if he does it again in the game he will be counted out.
